The NWU men’s Varsity Hockey team claimed a second consecutive win via a late winner against the NMMU Madibaz at the Tuks Astroturf today with a 4-2 victory in courtesy of a Killian Ludick goal before the hooter.

It was a case of Deja-Vu, for Sheldon Rostron’s men after they also won their previous match yesterday (Friday, 11 May) against Wits 8-7 thanks to Snyman Thessner’s winner at the death.

The star player in both these matches was Sinoxolo “Essex” Mbekeni who took won consecutive player of the match awards.

Thessner has also found his goal scoring range for the NWU as his opener against the Madibaz set the ball rolling for the Potchefstromers. His two goal against Wits were also invaluable as well as Pierre Botma’s double against the same opposition yesterday.

The NWU face UCT tomorrow in a “quarter-final” match at 15:15 with the winning team most likely making the top four.

This match will be live on Supersport 210.
