Only 46 points stood between the NWU and a victory over arch-rivals Tuks in the first Varsity Athletics meeting at the University of Pretoria last Friday, 2 March.
The NWU finished on 15 582 points with Tuks just creeping to victory with 15 628 points to take a slender lead in the second and final Varsity Athletics meeting that will take place on Friday, 23 March.

Rantso Mokopane of NWU Men’s 1500m At Tuks Athletics, Friday 2 March 2018

The NWU’s standout athletes were Rantso Mokopane who claimed victory in the men’s 1 500 metres with a time of 3:48.67.

Chederik van Wyk of NWU men’s 200m At Tuks Athletics, Friday 2 March 2018

Chederick van Wyk also claimed a well-deserved third place in the men’s 100 metres. Lente Pieterse also impressed in the 200 metres for the Potchefstroomers, claiming a silver medal with Justine Palframan of Maties taking gold.
