A brilliant unbeaten 90 from Women’s Proteas stalwart, Mignon du Preez, sealed a fantastic 7-wicket win for South Africa against India in the third ODI at Senwes Park on Saturday, 10 February.
Dané van Niekerk also played her part with an unbeaten 41 (30) as this quick innings proved vital to get the Proteas over the line with four balls to spare.
India batted first and hit a competitive 240 all out as Deepti Sharma (79 off 112 balls) and Veda Krishnamurthy with 56 off 64 both hit half-centuries.
The pick of the Proteas bowlers was Shabnim Ismail with figures of 4/30. Chloe Tryon also put in a stellar performance in the middle overs with 2/48 to keep the Indians at bay when Sharma and Krishnamurthy had lost their wickets.
South Africa’s reply was a mixture of concentration and calm heads with Laura Wolvaardt hitting a 59 to set up a great chase. Du Preez was brilliant with the bat and played a brilliant anchor role before Van Niekerk finished the match off with a few lusty blows to take SA home with the score on 241/3.
India still takes the series 2–1, though, after gaining the upper hand in the two first ODI’s. SA next faces India at Senwes Park in a T20 on Tuesday, 13 February.
