Current and former North West cricketers’ lives were dramatically changed last weekend with their inclusion in the prestigious T20 Global League in South Africa from 3 November to 16 December.
Not only will they play top level cricket on an international stage with the whole world watching, they will also take home hundreds of thousands and In some cases, millions of rands in this IPL-style spectacle. Seven of the current North West Dragons players, Janneman Malan (Bloem City Blazers), André Malan (Joburg Giants), Marques Ackerman (Durban Qalanders), Wihan Lubbe (Nelson Mandela Bay Stars), Bjorn Fortuin (Durban Qalanders), Rassie van der Dussen (Cape Town Knight Riders) and Nicky van den Bergh (Durban Qalanders) will take part in the debut season.
Furthermore, the NWU-Pukke Cricket Club can also boast with 12 players, either current or former, who will represent various franchises. They are Malusi Siboto (Cape Town Knight Riders), Chris Morris (Durban Qalanders), Christiaan Jonker (Joburg Giants), Werner Coetzee (Bloem City Blazers) and Grant Mokoena (Stellenbosch Monarchs).
The aforementioned Dragons players are also affiliated with the Pukke and form part of this university’s proud cricketing lineage. Expect a number of players to stand out.
