Haasbroek and Steenkamp in fine form for North West Academy

Ruan Haasbroek showcased his all- round ability with bat and ball in hand during the recent six-match Academy Cricket Week in Potchefstroom from 11-15 July.

Haasbroek, who played for the NW Academy side, scored 292 runs in six matches with a high score of 111* averaging 97.33 with a strike rate of 107.35.

The series consisted of two cricketing formats (three T20 matches and three one-day matches) and NW Academy dominated both formats by winning five out of the six matches played.

The head coach, Jimmy Kgamadi is extremely happy with his men as they displayed a fascinating brand of cricket during the series.

Haasbroek was the second leading run scorer of the series and only five runs separated him from the leading runs scorer, Janko Dreyer (FS Academy) scoring 297 runs.

Lourén Steenkamp (NW Academy) was in the run for the number one position as he scored 269 runs in six matches with a high score of 87* averaging 53.80 with a strike rate of 112.55. Haasbroek was not satisfied with just scoring runs for his team, he also took the most wickets in the series taking an outstanding 11 wickets in six matches. His best bowling      figures were 3/21 with an average of 10.73 and an economy of 3.73.

Mpho Selaolane (NW Academy) was also an outstanding feature for NW Academy as he equalled the second leading wicket taker with nine wickets in six matches. His best bowling  figures were 3/44 with an average of 17.78 and an economy of 5.16.

These are truly exciting times for NW Academy as these men have already set the benchmark for years to    come.
