The thrill and tradition of test cricket will be back in Potchefstroom in 2017 when Bangladesh comes to Senwes Park for a test match against South Africa at the end of September.

The Proteas will play their second test ever at Senwes Park for the first  time in 15 years with their previous test match also occurring against Bangladesh way back in 2002. During that match, Shaun Pollock was the captain who led the Proteas to a victory by an innings and 160 runs.

It has been a long time coming for North West Cricket, which is ranked as one of the top administrations in South African Cricket with one of the best grounds in the country.

The first test match in the two-match test series between Bangladesh’s Tigers and SA’s Proteas will take place from 28 September – 2 October in Potch and this will certainly be one of the highlights for the cricket fanatics all around the city and province, in general.

Furthermore, cricket fans will be treated to the shortened format with a firecracker of a T20 expected on Sunday, 29 October with the second T20 between South Africa and Bangladesh at Senwes Park.

The Proteas will be in Potchefstroom twice and that will be all the more reason for supporters to come and support both matches in what promises to be some heated spring action between these two nations.

North West Cricket CEO, Heinrich Strydom, is excited about the upcoming cricket season and believes that there is a real hunger for test cricket action in Potch after a 15-year wait.

‘There are three categories of stadiums in South Africa based on various criteria. Senwes Park in Potch falls into category B, which gets the opportunity to host an international match every two years.’

‘Senwes Park has an intimate atmosphere and is one of the country’s top venues. Crowds will definitely come and watch the cricket and be interested if we have a variety of activities on offer. It is bound to be a fantastic occasion,’ he stated.
