North West’s Underwater Hockey players are ready to take the pool by storm at the SA Junior Underwater Hockey Nationals at the Wahoo Aquatic Centre in Sandton from 10-12 March.

This attitude was evident at the Potchefstroom public swimming pool where Potchefstroom Herald caught up with the coach, Pamela Mackor in preparation for the event.

“We are taking a Boys u.19 A and B team as well as ladies u.19 A side to the nationals. A North West developmental team will also compete.

This team is mostly made up of players with three months or less experience,” she said.

Danel Wentzel, Micheal Coetzee, Nicole Smit, Simeon Jooste and Juliette Kayanan are the five chosen trialists who will look to qualify for the 2017 World Underwater Hockey World Championships that will take place in Hobart, Australia.

“They have been practising since January and are definitely well prepared for the SA’s. Gauteng is probably the strongest province, and that is understandable if you compare the facilities that they have,” explained Mackor.

Nothing will stop these juniors from giving it their all and this attitude, combined with their massive talent, might just be the recipe for success.
