On 27 February 2016, the North West Development Corporation (NWDC), hosted the province’s first ever VTSD Golf Challenge at the Ventersdorp GolfClub.

VTSD is an acronym for villages, townships and small dorpies and thus, the aim of the VTSD Golf Challenge is to bring about exposure and stimulate economic growth in the small towns of Bokone Bophirima Province, such as Ventersdorp.  NWDC’s acting CEO, Mr Lemogang Moletsane said, “The NWDC is proud and excited to host the very first of these golf challenges. We hope to replicate this model of golf challenges in other small towns and villages in our province. Hosting a golf day not only offers the small town exposure but is also aimed at providing local businesses and entrepreneurs with a platform to network, exchange business ideas and forge partnerships.”

The VTSD Golf Challenge comes a few days after the official opening of an enterprise development centre (EDC) in Ventersdorp, also by the NWDC, housed in the local municipal building. The EDC in Ventersdorp was officially opened during a ceremony in Tshing township on Wednesday, 24 February 2016.

The establishment of EDCs is a project of the NWDC aimed at bringing free services such as business support and economic development to communities throughout the province.

Both the VTSD Golf Challenge and the founding of the EDCs are inspired by the vision of North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo to rebrand, reposition and renew villages, townships and small dorpies (VTSDs); and to embark on a journey to bring services to the people that need them most.
