If soccer fans had bet on the number of missed chances in the Absa Premiership match between Jomo Cosmos and Mpumalanga Black Aces at Olën Park, they would have walked out as millionaires.

The midweek Absa Premiership match between the two sides, which ended 0-0, took place on Tuesday, 2 February and was a clash of the top and bottom teams with both sides desperately needing points.

Granted, both sides had great attacking intent and endeavour but, once a goal beckoned, they fluffed their chances – like a singer getting stage fright, they could not put practice into play.

Cheslyn Jampies had an early chance to test Aces keeper, Shu-Aib Walters but his shot narrowly missed the target. Cosmos’ leading scorer, Charlton Mashumba also had a number of good chances to score but the closest he got was the side netting.

Aces also had a plethora of guilt- edged chances to score but could not capitalise, which had their coach, Muhsin Ertugral, fuming and jumping from the sidelines.

Aces’ Lebohang Manyama and Aubrey Modiba kept Cosmos on their toes, but the home team defended each attack with resistance. Cosmos’ Sipho Mngomezulu was the star defender for his side as he kept up with the attacking threat for the entire game.

Jomo Sono rang the changes in the second half as he brought his son, Bamuza on to spruce up the midfield. This kept things stable without changing the attacking atmosphere of the game, though,  as both defences cancelled each other out to end the game in a fair 0-0 result.
