The Bizhub Highveld Lions’ spin wizard, Eddie Leie, bowled the Lions to a 20-run win over the VKB Knights in Bloemfontein on Sunday, 15 November, with career best figures of 5/15. The Lions made 112/7 in their 20 overs before the Knights slumped to 92 all out, thanks to accurate bowling from the men in red.
The Lions have now had the wood on the VKB Knights for the past month, with two victories in a row in both the Momentum One-Day Cup and the Ram Slam T20.
These two teams will face off against each other for the third time in the space of a month as Potchefstroom’s Senwes Park will host a Ram Slam T20 match at 18:00 on Wednesday 25 November. This day/night fixture promises to be an action-packed encounter under Senwes Park’s floodlights, where the Lions will need to win to stake a claim in the top-3 for the semi-final. History clearly shows that the Lions will have a good chance, especially where their bowling is concerned.
Aaron Phangiso, Dwaine Pretorius and Leie have had great success with the ball in hand and have generally restricted their opponents to low scores. Leie is currently third in the highest wicket-takers column with nine wickets thus far. It is their batting that has been the biggest headache for Lions coach, Geoffrey Toyana in this campaign. The Lions have struggled to post more than 150 in the past two matches against the Warriors and the Knights.
Before the Lions can focus on the Knights, they need to face the dangerous table-topping Dolphins at the Wanderers this coming Sunday. Should they get a victory, they will be on 12 points and in the third position on the log, depending on results elsewhere during the week.
