As the 2024 Athletics SA National Defence Force (NDF) calendar draws to a close, the North-West region gathered to honor its athletes’ exceptional performances throughout the year. The highlight of the celebration was a medals presentation ceremony held on Wednesday, July 24, at the General Support Base Potchefstroom.
Colonel K.E.J. Absalom, Officer Commanding General Support Base Potchefstroom and controlling authority of the Potchefstroom Military Sports Club, addressed the attendees during the event. Colonel Absalom commended the athletes for their dedication and impressive achievements.
The ceremony celebrated notable accomplishments from major events including the Comrades Marathon 2024, the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon, and the Athletics SANDF Cross Country Championships held in Bloemfontein. At the cross-country championships, the North-West region stood out by securing three medals: two silver and one bronze.
Colonel Absalom praised the athletes’ hard work and encouraged a focus on expanding clinic programs to foster young talent. “Your efforts and accomplishments this year have been commendable. I urge you to invest further in clinics to nurture the next generation of athletes,” she stated.
The event was also marked by a display of photographs and detailed information provided by Sergeant L.T. Pebe, Chairperson of the Athletics SA National Defence Force North-West, showcasing the achievements of the region’s athletes.
