Dassierand without water until Monday

JB Marks Municipality is addressing a massive pipe burst in Dassierand, with updates on repairs and alternative water distribution.

Residents of Dassierand and Kannonierspark are currently facing significant water supply disruptions following a massive pipe burst that occurred yesterday on 20 June 2024. The incident, which occurred at Dassierand, has prompted swift action from the JB Marks Municipality, though challenges in sourcing necessary equipment have resulted in delays in resolving the issue.

The burst, affecting areas dependent on the Dassierand water supply, has been pinpointed to an asbestos-containing pipe with an outer diameter of 295 mm. The Municipality’s technical team from Section Infrastructure promptly initiated investigations upon receiving reports, successfully locating and exposing the leaking pipe.

However, due to the unique specifications of the fittings required to repair the pipe, municipal officials encountered difficulties in finding suitable replacements. They have since contacted a manufacturer based in Krugersdorp, who has confirmed that the necessary fittings will only become available by Monday, 24 June 2024.

In light of these challenges, residents are advised to expect continued disruptions until repairs are completed. The Municipality has arranged for water trucks to distribute water to affected areas, alleviating immediate concerns over access to clean water. Designated water collection points have been established at key locations including Micheal Heyns Park and adjacent to the Bats Flats and Departments of Social Development at Dassierand.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and assure residents that our technical team is working tirelessly to restore normalcy,” stated acting communications manager, Jeanette Tshite. “We urge affected residents to remain patient and cooperative during this period.”

For any issues related to water supply, residents are encouraged to contact officials at Section Infrastructure on 0182995408.
