Dassierand residents without water after pipe bursts

A significant water pipe burst in Dassierand has disrupted water supply to Kannonierspark and nearby areas in JB Marks Local Municipality, Potchefstroom.

Residents of JB Marks Local Municipality in Potchefstroom were caught off guard yesterday, 20 June 2024 as a significant water supply pipe burst in Dassierand, causing widespread disruption. Areas including Kannonierspark, Dassierand, and nearby neighborhoods have been affected, leaving residents without access to regular water supply.

The incident prompted swift action from the Technical Team of the Section Infrastructure in the Municipality, who arrived promptly on the scene to assess the extent of the damage. At present, the precise cause of the pipe burst remains unknown, complicating efforts to estimate when full water supply restoration can be expected.

In response to the crisis, water tankers was scheduled to be dispatched starting from 17:00 on Thursday, June 20, 2024, and will continue to operate regularly until the situation is resolved. Residents are urged to collect water from designated points set up to alleviate the impact of the disrupted supply. These points include Michael Heyns Park, in front of Bats Flats, and the Department of Social Development Offices in Dassierand.

“We understand the inconvenience and hardship this disruption may cause,” commented acting communications manager Jeanette Tshite. “Our teams are working tirelessly to repair the pipe and restore normalcy to the affected areas as quickly as possible.”
