Electricity load curtailment implemented in Ventersdorp Region

Residents of JB Marks Local Municipality in the Ventersdorp Region are facing temporary electricity supply adjustments as load curtailment measures are implemented.

Residents of JB Marks Local Municipality in the Ventersdorp Region have been informed of a necessary measure to manage electricity supply in the area. Due to operational constraints at the Eskom intake substation, load curtailment will be implemented to prevent the risk of tripping the entire station.

Currently, the substation is operating with only one 10MVA transformer, as the second transformer, previously reported faulty, has been repaired. Efforts were made to bring the second transformer back online, along with additional capacity through a second incomer cable. However, until these measures are fully implemented, load curtailment is required.

The load curtailment will occur on an hourly basis during peak hours, from 17:00 to 22:00 in the evenings. Each feeder will be switched off for one hour during this period. It’s important to note that if the load remains within a reasonable threshold, curtailment may not be necessary.

Eskom has assured that an outage will be organized within the next two weeks to bring the next transformer online. However, in the interim, the municipality will proceed with load curtailment measures to ensure the stability of the electricity supply.

The schedule for electricity load curtailment is as follows:

June 13, 2024:

  • Dorp A: 17:00 – 18:00
  • Dorp D: 18:00 – 19:00
  • Tshing 1: 19:00 – 20:00
  • SK/SC: 20:00 – 21:00
  • RD/PL: 21:00 – 22:00

June 14, 2024:

  • AD/AK: 17:00 – 18:00
  • Tshing 2: 18:00 – 19:00
  • Dorp A: 19:00 – 20:00
  • Dorp D: 20:00 – 21:00
  • Tshing 1: 21:00 – 22:00

June 15, 2024:

  • SK/SC: 17:00 – 18:00

Residents are urged to adhere to the load curtailment schedule and to minimize electricity usage during peak hours to alleviate strain on the substation. The municipality and Eskom are working diligently to address the situation and restore normal electricity supply as soon as possible.
