Police looking for attempted rape suspect
In a chilling incident near Vuselela College in Potchefstroom, a 21-year-old woman narrowly escaped an attempted rape.
The Potchefstroom Police have issued a plea to the community for assistance in identifying and locating a man wanted in connection with an attempted rape incident that occurred on 8 March 2024.
According to a media statement, a 21-year-old victim was walking in an open field near the railway line, in close proximity to Vuselela College in Potchefstroom, when she was approached by an unknown male. The man reportedly asked to accompany her before forcibly grabbing her and dragging her into nearby bushes. However, the victim bravely fought back, ultimately managing to break free from her assailant’s grasp and call for help.
The suspect is described as being of a very dark complexion, tall, and possessing a muscular build. He has short hair, a goatee beard, and distinctive scars on the right side of his neck. Authorities estimate his age to be in his 50s.
In their efforts to apprehend the suspect, the Potchefstroom Police have released an identikit of the individual, urging anyone with information regarding his identity or whereabouts to come forward. Warrant Officer Rendani Bulannga of the Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit has been designated as the Investigating Officer for this case and can be reached at Cell: 082 568 9028/36.
