In a decisive collaborative effort, Ikageng Detectives, Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Drug Task Team, and Fochville Visible Policing successfully apprehended five suspects in connection with the murder of 44-year-old Elissa Nikolene Maponyane. The arrests took place on Friday, 24 May 2024, following a meticulous investigation.
Maponyane was tragically shot multiple times at her residence in Ikageng, Potchefstroom, on Thursday, 23 May 2024. Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) responded to the scene but were unable to save her; she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Swift action and information gathered by the investigating team led them to Kokosi township, near Fochville, where all five suspects were detained. The suspects, aged between 19 and 48, were found in possession of a Volkswagen Jetta, two firearms, and ammunition, all believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects have been identified as Mpho Gift Visagie (19), Tebogo Lipholo (32), Phoka Raphoka (36), Mpho Thorn Bennet Lombard (32), and John Ramasubela Mohahabe (48). They appeared before the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court today, 27 May 2024, and were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Tuesday, 4 June 2024.
Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility that these suspects may be linked to other criminal activities.
