The tragic death of Buti Mogorosi, a member of North-West University Emergency Services, this passed week has left a deep sadness amongst his colleagues, family and friends.

Mogorosi was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Friday, 1 December on the N12 in the direction of Johannesburg about 25km outside of Potchefstroom. He died as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

According to North-West University spokesperson, Bertie Jacobs, Mogorosi joined NWU Emergency Services in November 2022 and was a candidate emergency service member in training at the time of his death.

“The NWU Emergency Services team remembers him as a beloved, lively and dedicated member who gave his all in every task he undertook. They singled out his hunger for knowledge and experience as driving forces in his life. Buti also left his mark at the NWU as an administrative staff member at the Faculty of Health Sciences and part-time coach at the NWU’s soccer teams,” stated Jacobs.

Michael Seleka, football manager and head coach of NWU Tawana at the NWU Potchefstroom campus, stated that Mogorosi was a beloved brother, father, son, and colleague.

“He was studying while playing for us until he concluded his Masters degree. I can proudly say that he is an NWU Tawana Legend. He spent decades with the club as a player and coach,” added Seleka.

“He was supposed to be part of the technical team going to the USSA Football National Club Championship at UWC in Cape Town. It hurts thinking of the time we spend on Friday during training sessions,” said Seleka.
