New board members elected at Witrand Hospital

Witrand Hospital has recently unveiled their new board members who will aim to take the hospital to new heights.

This is in light of recent media reports where the state of the hospital was critically looked at amidst various claims regarding the poor state of the hospital.

According the hospital they have noted concerns and issues raised by the media recently about the hospital operations and systems. The hospital board was part of the recent Witrand Hospital Lekgotla held on 31 May 2023 to 2 June 2023 at Safari Lodge, and the implementation of the outcomes of the Lekgotla will be strictly monitored to ensure compliance.

“Key to the board’s role is also to monitor the safety and security of patients, health staff, and departmental assets. This is one tough responsibility, especially as the hospital is more than 100 years old and the structure and systems warn out.  But we are determined to monitor health programs, providing feedback to departmental stakeholders and the community at large,” stated Witrand Hospital spokesperson, Nico Masiu.

As part of the Orientation and induction, the New Witrand Hospital Board Members recently signed an oath as an obligation to ensure oversight and mobilization of the community and other stakeholders to identify and solve community health problems, specifically mental health, physical medicine, and substance abuse, and care for intellectually disabled taking referrals from Dr. Kenneth Kaunda and the entire NW Province.

Witrand Hospital board as the representative of the community, liaises with the office of the MEC for Health in the North West Province on key strategic issues impacting hospital service delivery.

The Witrand Hospital board is comprised of 13 nominated and elected members from different individuals and groups of stakeholders with finance, legal academic, retired nursing, traditional and political backgrounds. They serve on a voluntary basis.

Among the New Witrand Hospital Board is Mr. David Moalusi: who is the Board Chairperson, Mr. Thamsanqa Mkhunjuzwa: Deputy Chairperson, Rev Simphiwe Ndebele, Dr. Sabelile Tenza, MMC Kasale, Mrs. Rainy Martins, Ms. Mmakutlwano Nzimankulu, Mr. Meshack Matlawe,  Mr. Richard Ramalisa, Ms. Rebecca Nkaki, Mr. James Makhaza, Ms. Dineo Manyetsa, and Mr. Itumeleng Khoarare. The executive is represented on the Board by Mrs. Moipone Molokeng: Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Ishmael Moloi: Health District Director.

As representatives of the community, the board members are tasked to provide information on service delivery to the community such as departmental mandates, Strategic and operational outcomes impacting the community.

The board members participate in different sub-communities such as finance, administration, quality assurance, strategic public relations subcommittees, etc. This way the community views are expressed in these communities so that there are informed decisions taken and implemented to improve hospital service delivery.

“So far, we are happy that the hospital has a fully capacitated and experience management to manage the hospital and take it to the highest standard as a leading mental health hospital in Southern Africa,” added Mr. Moalusi.
