The purpose of the awards is to honour and recognise the teachers in the education sector who go the extra mile to ensure teaching excellence in and out of their classrooms. The award winners and finalists will now compete in the next phase at the district level (Dr Kenneth Kaunda), where they will face the top teachers of Matlosana and Maquassi Hills.

The event also featured the Laerskool Mooirivier choir and poetry from President Pretorius learners to add an extra dash of excellence to the proceedings.

The keynote speaker was Christine Fourie of Toevlug Primary in Ventersdorp, the NW provincial winner in the Excellence in Primary School Teaching category in 2022.
