International actor living in Potchefstroom fulfils various acting roles
After meeting his now wife and Potchefstroomer Monique while working in Los Angeles, international actor Alonso Grandio visited South Africa and has called Potchefstroom his home since 2017.
After meeting his now wife and Potchefstroomer Monique while working in Los Angeles, international actor Alonso Grandio visited South Africa and has called Potchefstroom his home since 2017.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Grandio graduated from college in Mexico with a communications degree. After his studies, he took a leap of faith and left everything to go to Los Angeles, where he studied acting for film, with a Spanish heritage from his father’s side.
Alonso says he wanted to perform ever since he was little. “Telling stories is my passion; creating different characters and play-pretending felt like a natural place to be,” the actor said.
Alonso says he knew he was different because he was always the outcast at school and could never see himself working in an office. Throughout his career, he acted in theatre, Indy films and blockbusters internationally and worked with Sony, Netflix, and Universal Studios with international actors like Adam Sandler, Vin Diesel, and Michelle Rodriguez, to name a few.
And even though he has lived in Potchefstroom for over five years, his dream has never died, and he continued to pursue acting in a country that was a complete mystery to him. But thanks to him signing up with one of the top acting agencies in the country, Alonso has been able to work with networks like SABC3, SABC1, ETV, MNet Netflix, Kyknet, and with people on top of the South African film industry.
His most recognised role yet is that of Mark Perez in the hit television soapie Rhythm City. Most recently, he has booked roles in the wonder shows Binnelanders and Diepe Waters.
His performance in Binnelanders aired from 29 May to 2 June. An insatiable drive and hunger for more added to his love of this art form, and with his wife’s support, they joined forces with JannyDjan Academy.
JannyDjan Acting, powered by Conejito Productions, their production company, was established in May 2022 to bring world-class acting training and management to Potchefstroom.
