Church aims to donate 100 pairs of school shoes to those in need

The Southern Synod has chosen to make a difference in the lives of young people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Southern Synod has chosen to make a difference in the lives of young people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“While we can not take away all social ills of society, in our poorest communities, we still believe the little we are able to do can contribute to the alleviation of these social ills,” Reverend Mabetha said.

As a contribution to combat the effects of poverty and promote education for youth, the Synod asked all congregations to sponsor a school (closest to their church) to support the most vulnerable children by purchasing school shoes.

After consulting with the school principal and working with the SGB to coordinate the project, the local church selected Promosa Primary School and identified beneficiaries in dire need of assistance. Florrie Makaku, the church scribe, says with the help of the community and local businesses, their goal is to hand over 100 pairs of shoes on Thursday, 15 June 2023.

“At the moment we have managed to collect 50 pairs all thanks to donations received from the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa,” she said.

“During these cold weather conditions, many are without a pair of decent school shoes and we are hoping to be able to donate to as many children as possible and all shoe sizes will truly be appreciated,” Florrie said.
