Born and bred in Promosa, Chaz Warries who prides himself in being the first gay person in the asphalt industry has started a ‘perfect pothole patch’ campaign that aims to help fix roads throughout Potchefstroom.

Chaz, who now resides in Gauteng, says he was visiting his grandmother’s grave in Promosa when he realised that there was a great need for roads and infrastructure to be restored in his hometown. “ We thought about it and made plans to launch a demo project in Potchefstroom,” he says.

Chaz in partnership with the municipality launched the project on Thursday, 25 May, where they kick started by fixing the potholes on Blommetjies street in Promosa.

“ We aim to run the campaign to run the project for the next three months where our focus will also be on restoring neglected buildings,” he said.

Chaz added that it is exciting times for Potchefstroom as they are in the midst of planning to open a local asphalt plant where they are hoping to partner with local businesses to ‘adopt a street’ where each business will take the responsibility of restoring a street.
