In preparation for the new season, many Polocrosse players traveled to Potchefstroom from all over the country on Saturday, 28 January.

Among the guests on Saturday was the renowned Henry Harris, who was recently announced as the 2024 Ladies World Cup Coach and Polocrosse World Cup Winning coach Bruce MacLarty who both ensured that players were getting the best insight and preparation for the season.

Among the players who were participating on Saturday were teammates who have been selected to partake in the Junior Test Series where South Africa will tour Australia in April this year. This is a fantastic achievement and a superb opportunity for Polocrosse riders to gain experience and improve their skills during the tour.

Kirsty Rault, who is in the SA women’s team and will partake in the world tour, started the sport at a young age and says apart from the fact that she loves horses, she mainly enjoys the sport because it is a family sport. “ Anyone can play at any age and enjoy it,” she said.

Kristy says she also looks forward to meeting new people, experiencing the culture in Australia and getting to see the horses. “ Polocrosse is actually a much more affordable sport to play. However, we do need money for the upkeep of the horses and getting equipment, therefore getting a sponsor would go an extremely long way,” she said.

Chelsea Mcdonald who also plays for the South Africans womens team says what she is looking forward to about going to Australia is the fact that it will be her first time there. “ I am really looking forward to meeting new people and riding different horses,” she said.

Potch polocrosse chairperson David Thornhill believes their team stands a great chance of being world champions, since they are the runners up of the world championships. “ Our aim is to grow the sport to become bigger than what it currently is and getting help from sponsors will greatly help us achieve that,” Thornhill said.

“We assure people who love horses and want to see the sport grow that we are a development club and our main objective is to see our players succeed,” he said.

If anyone is willing to donate to the sport to assist with equipment and upcoming tours, contact Rochelle Thornhill on 082 785 1595 or send her an email admin@polocrosse.co.za
