Municipality gives back to children in need

After going door to door and identifying community members in need, the municipality donated toiletries and sanitary towels to 50 families.

“The programme went well as parents and kids were extremely happy for this initiative,” Mantwa Kasale, MMC of community services said.

The initiative was led by Kasale, who explained that the donations were for learners of different schools, especially those residing in Ward 9. “The municipality’s role is to make sure those tasked with serving the community do what is expected of them. That is why we have an office of the speaker that deals directly with councillors and ward committee members,” she said.

Besides the toiletries, they also donated instant meals as many go to school on an empty stomach. “We can’t deny that some of our kids go to school without having breakfast, which is why most schools intro-duced feeding schemes,” Kasale said.

“Having to learn and concentrate without having anything to eat affects our children’s studies badly,” Kasale lamented. “ It is important that we help better our community,” she added.
