Let our light shine in this dark world praying for a better tomorrow

As the year ends, our country and its people have so much to reminisce about, whether good or bad. We may have lost relatives and friends or welcomed newborn babies into our families.

As the year ends, our country and its people have so much to reminisce about, whether good or bad. We may have lost relatives and friends or welcomed newborn babies into our families.

Our country still faces great challenges, but we must remain prayerful. With unemployment and poverty still very high, crimes like theft, robberies, assault, GBV, substance and drug abuse are also at an all-time high in our communities.

While the veld fires rage on at the coast and the heavy rains and flooding in the highland cause chaos, we should not be afraid, for God is still on the throne.

Through suffering, we become stronger. As a people, let’s remember we are blessed to be a blessing. As believers and leaders, we need to fight the elements of evil in our society, like racism, discrimination, hate crimes, corruption and load shedding, our struggling economy and the lack of jobs. “You deserve a circle of inclusion and influence, but it’s up to you to create it.

” It is of utmost importance that we never elect leaders involved in syndicates, gangs, mafias or terrorism. We need leaders who will protect human rights and uphold our democratic constitutional state. G

Government should do more to create awareness of suicide prevention and depression in our township communities. Most importantly, teach your children about the Word and God, our creator, and respect and discipline.

In so doing, when you leave this earth, you can rest in eternal peace, knowing you have given them the best.My mom always used to say, “My son, each day that God gives you, rather make a friend than an enemy, or at least learn something new. Isaiah 43:2 says ‘When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

As some families will have more than enough to eat, others will have nothing this Christmas and will go to bed hungry. Please spare a thought for those with nothing, whether in your street or community. Let our light shine in the darkness. I wish you all a blessed hoilday season and the happiest New Year.
