Last night (22 December) at approximately 19:30, ER24 received a call that two children aged five and nine were attacked by two pitbulls at their residence in Meadow street, Miederpark.

According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring, ER24 arrived on the scene at 19:36 to find Mooirivier Beskerming in attendance. Medics were led into the home where the two girls were found. “On assessment, medics found that the five-year-old girl had sustained bite wounds to her face while the nine-year-old sustained bite wounds to her legs and buttocks,” he said.

The girls were treated and provided with pain-relief medication before they were transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital for further care. “The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown but local authorities will be investigating further,” Meiring said.

By the time Mooirivier Beskerming responded to the scene, the owner had put the dogs down, says Christiaan Haefele, business manager.

According to police spokesperson Captain Aaje Botma, no case has been opened and no investigation is underway. PAWS declined to comment since the case is still being investigated.
