SAPS raise awareness on the negative effects of drugs

The station commander for Potchefstroom, Brigadier Steven Moodley and the Visible policing commander, Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Mahlangu attended the campaign.

In a quest to promote safety in learning institutes, Potchefstroom SAPS visited Potchefstroom College of Agriculture on 28 September 2022 to raise awareness and educate the students about the negative repercussions of using drugs.

The station commander for Potchefstroom, Brigadier Steven Moodley and the Visible policing commander, Lieutenant Colonel Thabo Mahlangu attended the campaign.

Various stakeholders were present at the event.

Representatives from stakeholders such as Department of Correctional Services, Departement of Education, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Communications, Potchefstroom Community Policing Forum (CPF) as well as personnel and students of the college were also in attendance.

According to the sector manager, Sergeant Lesley Dipale, drug abuse is a concern in institutions of higher learning in the area.

Chaplain (Warrant Officer) Sibusiso Gule from SAPS Employee health and wellness opened the day with the scripture reading and prayer.

In his preaching, Gule quoted and reiterated the importance of self – control as not only one of the attributes of the Holy Spirit but as something that can help the students to stay focused, disciplined and distance themselves from substance abuse.

Brig Moodley also emphasized that criminal it’s not only when they steal, but also when they buy stolen goods as you contribute to crime in the country.

Moodley further more pleaded to the young ladies not to let any man violate them.

Ms Hazel Kgatitsoe from the Department of Correctional Service started her presentation by distributing questionnaire on substance abuse asking learners to assess themselves.

She thereafter taught them about various types of alcohol and deadly ingredients contained in them as she discouraged them from using drugs.
