On Saturday, 1 October, Cupcakes of Hope, a non-profit organisation that supports children with cancer across South Africa, celebrates its tenth birthday with National Cupcake Day events across the country. Potchefstroom will celebrate National Cupcake Day at MooiRivier Mall from 09:00 to 15:00.

For a small donation, there will be delicious cupcakes, baked by Cupcake Angels to enjoy and help a child in need.
This year’s fundraising goal is R10 million nationally, which will help Cupcakes of Hope continue supporting hundreds of young cancer patients and their families each month.

This support is in the form of medical bills and other essentials like nappies and nutrition. Since 2021, the number of patients this organisation supports has doubled. Last month alone, over 240 young cancer patients received financial assistance, with the youngest being only five months old.

“My mom is no longer here. I would like to encourage each person fighting this battle that you are not alone,” said Lucretia Peterson, a Cupcake Angel who lost her mom to cancer and will be baking on the day. “We are all rooting for you to come out stronger on the other side,” she added.

“Cupcakes of Hope is not just a platform where we help children with cancer. Volunteering to honour our friends and loved ones who have been affected by cancer brings joy, healing and purpose to so many of us,” says Sandy Cipriano, founder of Cupcakes of Hope. “It is also a way to pay it forward and make new friends who become family.”
