No fine’s at libraries until end June

Libraries in Potchefstroom are offering a fine-free period until the end of June 2022.

Libraries in Potchefstroom are offering a fine-free period until the end of June 2022.
Since 2015, over 3,205 library items have not been returned to local libraries. If patrons do not return library materials, especially at the current rate, the library collections become depleted, thereby depriving communities of the benefit of access to these materials.

Returning borrowed books also returns valuable history and information to where it belongs. Being able to read and having access to books is a privilege that not all have. By not returning books, community members are deprived of the benefit, enjoyment and use of those materials.
It also diminishes the value of a library’s collection, as a whole, because librarians spend time building collections that speak to their communities’ needs.

Children can feast their eyes on all the stories, pictures, information and resources they can find. They need to realise the joy of reading and exposure to the vast world of information and imagination available to them between the pages of a book.
Library books can be a great source of valuable information and insight into whatever topic you are interested in. However, for some who enjoy researching and want to find that specific book, the book will often not be available because someone has not yet returned it.
Members of the public are re- minded that joining the library is a free service.
All you need to do is bring a copy of your ID and proof of residential address.
