Resident concerned about the potholes in her area

Despite numerous complaints to the municipality to fix the roads, Musa Mamome said they have all fallen on deaf ears. He is now calling on the provincial Department of Transport to fix the roads that are riddled with potholes.
Mamome, who transports primary school children, says he hit a nasty pothole while driving down Mosidi Street in Ikageng three weeks ago.
“My front left wheel was badly damaged because of the potholes,” he said.
As he needed the car to get to work the next morning, Musa had to arrange for a repair; a cost he had not budgeted for. “The municipality ignores us; they simply don’t care,” he said.

“I see people taking matters into their own hands, but we can’t fix the roads ourselves; that’s not our duty as citizens.
All the roads in Potchefstroom are full of huge potholes. Reporting pothole damage is point-less because they give us the same line that the department is short-staffed due to the Covid-19 pandemic – even two years later! That is ridiculous,” he lamented.
“Our roads are a mess that needs urgent intervention.”
Musa is concerned about the lives of his passengers.
“We contact the municipality almost every other month to try and come up with a solution, but there’s no way forward,” he said.
The Herald asked the municipality for comment but had received none by print time.
