SASCOC’s road to excellence starts at NWU with fruitful high performance workshop

Numerous delegates and stakeholders were present to chart a path of excellence ahead of future Olympic events.

The SASCOC High-Performance Indaba took place at the NWU Sports Village on Thursday, 10 February. Numerous delegates and stakeholders were present to chart a path of excellence ahead of future Olympic events.

The NWU has been chosen as one of the base facilities for SASCOC going forward, in the build-up to future Olympic Games in 2024 and 2028. The executive mayor of the J.B. Marks Local Municipality, Cllr Gaba Ka Qhele, was also in attendance to welcome the SASCOC delegates to Potchefstroom.

He emphasised the important role that sports play at various levels, regarding the economic growth of the city. This important indaba focused on various strategic plans to take SA sports to the next level. Discussions and presentations were made in various fields of expertise through-out the fruitful workshop.

Present were the SASCOC president, Barry Hendricks, SASCOC CEO, Nozipho Jafta and NWU sports manager, Sheldon Rostron and Dr Bertus le Roux, business, and operations manager at NWU CHHP, among other dignitaries and experts in their respective fields.

The keynote speaker was Prof. Pieter Kruger, who was also a member of the SA Tokyo 2020 Olympics squad as the team psychologist. The workshop showed that SA has the expertise to ensure successful planning and implementation of this in the next couple of years, heading into the next editions of the Olympic Games.
