Family forever grateful after fire

When tragedy struck at the Kaloete home in Lekhele Street, Ikageng, last September, the family never expected to celebrate Christmas and New Year in their home.

After losing nearly everything in a spontaneous fire, the family was forced to split up and live with different family members while trying to make ends meet.
“It was extremely tough; prayer was the only thing that gave us strength,” Mapule Kaloete said.

Today, the family is back in their home with a few renovations left. “God is truly amazing. The community assisted beyond what we could’ve ever expected. None of these things would’ve been possible without them,” Mapule added.

According to the mother, Rakgadi Maria Kaloete, the family home still needs a kitchen sink, ceiling and doors.
The family adds that although they don’t have any more money, their hearts are full.
“We could move back in time for Christmas and most of our family was here to show us support,” she shared.

The family still can’t believe that just four months ago, they were left shattered after witnessing their generational home go up in flames with no insurance in place. Their house had been there for over 70 years.
Although they learnt the hard way, they now have the necessary security measures in place. “It was an extremely difficult experience but it taught us always to prepare for the unexpected,” Mapule added.
“Words fail to express how truly grateful we are for all the help we continue to receive from the community. No donation goes unnoticed,” Rakgadi concluded.
