Mayor denies R2 million will be spent on mayor’s offices

A spokesperson in the mayor’s office vehemently that the municipality has plans to spend R2 million to refurbish the mayor’s office.

“Reliable sources from within the J.B. Marks Municipality have informed DA councillors that the municipality plans to spend R2 million to refurbish the mayor’s office,” says Chris Hattingh, a DA councillor in the same municipality.

When the Herald asked J.B. Marks about the planned spending, a spokesperson in the mayor’s office vehemently denied it. “…it is a blue lie….This R2 million refurbishment story of the mayoral offices is a uniquely DA fabrication and is also kept alive by them,” said the spokesperson.

Although the mayor denies the planned budget of millions, she conceded that the offices need upgrading. “However, the offices, I must say, are actually in a very bad state…the mayor’s office is the people’s office. They come there for many things such as assistance for funerals, donations, financial assistance for studies etc. They only want to receive service in line with Batho Pele principles and every day we try hard to give them that [sic],” reads a statement from the office of the mayor.
