Trench still open after six months

A trench dug by contractors to open a sewerage line on the corner of Albert Luthuli drive and Wilgen Street has still not been filled.

A trench dug by contractors to open a sewerage line on the corner of Albert Luthuli drive and Wilgen Street has still not been filled.

Six months ago, almost 15 households in the Bult West area had problems with drains overflowing. Sewage was pushing up in showers and toilets in the houses and the outside drains. The Herald reported on the problem in January and later, in March this year. We recently took a picture of the trench, which isn’t filled with water anymore. Residents fear that animals or a child may fall into the open trench and want to know why the municipality isn’t making any effort to close it up.

Last week the Herald sent an inquiry to William Maphosa, the spokesperson for the J.B. Marks municipality, but had not received any feedback yet.
