Super Eleven grocery store in Extension 11 was the scene of a murder at around 17:30 on Sunday, 18 April 2021.
According to the owner, four men entered, intending to rob the shop. Nadeem Ahmad (52) and Muhammad Atif (23) were on duty at the time.
This was the second time the armed robbers had targeted the store in just over a week. “The Saturday before, they walked away with R7,000,” he said. Ahmad and Atif were unharmed.
The robbers came with the same demands on Sunday. “Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough money in the store as we had already paid the wholesaler,” the owner explained. That led to the brutal murder of Ahmad. He was stabbed several times and died on his way to the hospital. Atif was severely assaulted and also stabbed.
The masks the suspects were wearing prevented them from being identified.
The owner was devastated by the incident and sent his condolences to the families that have been affected.
The Herald asked the police for comment, but none was forthcoming by the time of publication.
