Stolen cables lead to emergency load-shedding in Ikageng

Ikageng is currently under emergency load-shedding after electricity cables had been stolen at an Eskom substation last night.

According to the Department of Technical Services of the J.B Marks municipality, these cables supply power to the main substation and are control cables that safeguard the substation against external faults.

“In the process, the neutral earth compensatory equipment have also exploded. One of the transformers is offline and the other operating transformer can no longer carry the whole load. We have to implement emergency load-shedding in Ikageng and extensions until Eskom replaces the NER equipment and the stolen cables”, the statement confirmed.
