The African National Congress’s (ANC) National Working Committee (NWC) visited the J.B. Marks Local Municipality’s banquet halls on Monday, 23 November.

The African National Congress’s (ANC) National Working Committee (NWC) visited the J.B. Marks Local Municipality’s banquet halls on Monday, 23 November. The visit was part of the political party’s national executive committee (NEC) assessment on the progress on rebuilding the organisation’s structures across the province.

The deputy president, David Mabuza, and the deputy secretary-general, Jessie Duarte, were some of the dignitaries who met with the provincial executive committee and the regional committee members from the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda region.

According to News24, this was part of the party’s preparation for the local government election campaign.

They reported that the province has been under administration since 2018. Several local municipalities have also been placed under administration, including the J.B. Marks Local Municipality.

“The collapse of service delivery, financial distress and political instability have been cited among the reasons behind the intervention. The late auditor-general, Kimi Makwetu, said none of the province’s municipalities had achieved a clean audit,” they stated.

President Cyril Ramaphosa; the national chairperson, Gwede Mantsashe; the secretary-general, Ace Magashule, and the treasurer-general, Paul Mashatile are some of the NWC members who visited other regions in the province.
