Game: Retail re-imagined comes to Potchefstroom

Game has also introduced new and expanded categories as part of its turnaround strategy – all of which will be available in the Potchefstroom store – including clothing, party solutions, parenting, children’s books bestsellers, home security and wellness.

The African retail giant, Game, is excited to launch its reimagined Game and Game Liquor stores at Potchefstroom’s Mooi River Mall today. This is in line with its larger turnaround strategy, ‘Retail Reimagined’, and follows the launch of the future-ready store at Mall of Africa earlier this year. “We have consulted with numerous key role players across the business and conducted extensive market and customer research and used these insights to create a shopping experience that puts customers at the centre of our stores,” says Andrew Stein, vice president of Game.

“Game is changing the way we operate within our stores, our store layout, our product ranges and customer service. Our Potchefstroom consumers are important to us and we have taken care to ensure this reimagined store addresses their needs directly and effectively.”

The Mooi River Mall store has undergone extensive upgrades, including a fresh look-and-feel and a store layout. The store has been designed to intuitively follow the customer lifecycle and make navigating the store easier. It includes interactive demonstration zones across the various categories, where consumers can test products like prams, children’s bicycles and electronics.

Game has also introduced new and expanded categories as part of its turnaround strategy – all of which will be available in the Potchefstroom store – including clothing, party solutions, parenting, children’s books bestsellers, home security and wellness.

Game will continue to offer South African household favourites where one in every three large appliances and TVs are sold at Game. Game is also going to partner exclusively with Massmart private labels for its DIY section, like Fired Earth, POWERWORXTM and LIGHT-WORXTM. In a bid to allow more South Africans to shop its unbeatable Black Friday deals while ensuring shopper and staff safety, Game has decided to extend its operating hours from 25–29 November. “As we approach payday, we recognise that many South Africans will be looking to shop Black Friday deals between now and the end of the month,” explains Stein.

“To ensure our stores remain safe and comfortable for our shoppers, we are extending our operating hours both in the morning and the evening, to allow for shopping to take place before or after work.” The Potchefstroom store will open from 07:00 to 18:00 on 25, 26 and 27 November; from 08:00 to 18:00 on 28 November; and from 09:00 to 16:00 on 29 November. The retailer has also secured additional stock on some of this year’s most popular Black Friday deals, for those looking to shop from payday. This means that consumers will be able to shop over 150 items at unbeatable prices – only valid until 29 November. Further, as part of launch week, Game will be giving customers an extra opportunity to win in its Black Friday ‘1 Cent Price Surprise’ competition. Introduced last year, the competition provides a chance for all Game shoppers to save more by paying only one cent for their Black Friday purchase at check out. Game has added more products to the list for the launch of the reimagined Potchefstroom store, giving local shoppers more chances to win and save.

“We have finalised our three future-ready stores for 2020 – including Mall of Africa in Johannesburg, Mooi River Mall and Tzaneen Mall. Among our other strategic plans are phasing out Fresh and Frozen from 65 stores by the end of November and introducing our clothing range, Stylessentials, into all Game stores by 2021,” concludes Stein.
