Herschelle Johette Makousa (17) has won the Miss Junior Teen South Africa – North West 2020 title after she was selected as a finalist last November. She says she was overwhelmed yet excited when she heard her name called out for the top contestant in the province. “I was in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it; I even had goosebumps,” she said.

Thankfulness is one of the prominent feelings Herschelle feels for being awarded the title of Miss Junior Teen SA – NW. It was a unique experience for her, especially as the pageant was conducted virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the title, she hopes that more doors will open. She wants to help build her community and those in surrounding areas through her project called ‘Themba la Bantu’. She also plans to provide necessities to those in need.

Herschelle wishes to inspire young girls in her community to believe in themselves and help them revive their dreams.

This ambitious young woman from Promosa uses her experiences, victories, and challenges as lessons. She has found strength in the support of her mother, Julia Makousa. Julia has always been at every competition her daughter has participated in. Herschelle entered the pageantry industry in 2014 when she took part in the Miss Spring 2014 contest. Her journey and passion in the industry continue to unfold.

She encourages the youth to dream big but not be afraid to start small. “Chase your dreams and be yourself.”
