Two brothers were charged with the attempted murder of a teenager.
Maxwell Jali (31) and his brother, Siyabonga Jali (35) were arrested for attempted murder on 19 September 2019, after being accused of assaulting Ulridge Enrique Brown(18).

Due to the doctor’s reports, the charges were changed from assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, to attempted murder. Colonel Adele Myburgh, North West Police spokesperson says “The charges of attempted murder are now being investigated due to the severity of the injuries that the victim sustained”. She says that the suspects appeared in court on Friday and were granted bail of R3000.

The Herald reported in last week’s (19 September 2019) edition that on 10 September 2019, Ulridge was hit several times, paraffin and water poured over him, he was chained to a pole and was tortured in other ways before his family was contacted.
“Their next court appearance will be on 22 November,” says Colonel Myburgh.
