Eighteen injured in Nelson Mandela Road accident

Eighteen people were injured in an accident that occurred this morning (31 January) close to the police station on the corner of Nelson Mandela and O.R. Tambo roads. A taxi, bakkie and light motor vehicle were part of the collision.

Eighteen people were injured in an accident that occurred this morning (31 January) close to the police station on the corner of Nelson Mandela and O.R. Tambo roads. A taxi, bakkie and light motor vehicle were part of the collision.

According to ER24, paramedics, along with the provincial police arrived on the scene at 08:45 to find the taxi on the side of the road. The bakkie and light motor vehicle were found on the opposite side of the road. Several people were still seated inside the three vehicles while several others were walking around on the scene.

One person sustained serious injuries while seventeen other had sustained minor to moderate injuries, ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring said.

‘The patients were treated for their injuries, and the seriously injured provided with advanced life support interventions, before they were transported to Potchefstroom Provincial Hospital and Mediclinic Potchefstroom for further care,’ Meiring said.

The details surrounding the incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
