According to Lt.-Col Amanda Funani, Nthabiseng Modisane (24), Gopolang Modisane (28) and Sello Letsholo (48) were taken into custody and appeared before the Ventersdorp magistrates’ court on Monday, 14 January.

‘The Ventersdorp police arrested the trio after stopping and searching a white delivery van near Derby. During the search, the police found 28 sheep worth R56 000 in the back of the vehicle. They arrested the accused for possession of suspected stolen goods when the suspects failed to explain how they took possession of the livestock.

‘Further investigation into the matter revealed that the sheep came from a farm in the vicinity of Vryburg,’ reported Funani. They have since been handed over to the lawful owner.

The North West acting provincial commissioner, Maj.-Genl Ryno Naidoo applauded the members for their vigilance that led to the arrest of the accused. Their action will contribute towards the reduction of serious crimes, including stock theft, he said
