Mphogane Mirriam Saane (35) gave her last breath while explaining to her neighbour why her 43-year-old boyfriend, Seuntjie Mabonda had stabbed her on 24 October 2017.
The magistrate sentenced Mabonda to an effective 20 years imprisonment for murder in the high court sitting at the Potchefstroom magistrates’ court last Thursday.
Last year, someone phoned the police at around 18:00 to say a woman had been stabbed in Mabopane Street in Ikageng. ‘When they arrived at the scene, the EMRS (Emergency Medical Rescue Services) personnel had already certified the woman dead. She had multiple stab wounds to her body and was lying on the floor, covered with two duvets. There was blood all over the floor,’ said Sgt Kelebogile Trom at the time.
‘Earlier, the 9-year-old daughter of the deceased had run to tell the neighbour that her mother’s boyfriend had stabbed her and fled the scene. The woman accompanied the girl to the house and found the victim still alive. She died while she was telling them what had happened,’ reported Trom.
