According to Willie Maphosa, spokesperson of JB Marks municipality, Executive mayor, Kgotso Khumalo has declared that the late Thabo Mosiane will be afforded a full civic funeral by the council, the details of which are still to be released.

Mosiane, former local and district councillor as well as single whip of both district and local councils respectively, was found dead alone at his residence on Sunday morning (2 December).

According to Maphosa the cause of his death is not known and will only be known after the post mortem results are made available.

A steady stream of tributes to Mosiane have been shared on social media, he has been described as the lion of Tlokwe, a larger than life social-being that loved his country, a colossal soul that loved his people.

The JB Marks have also brought tribute to the former leader.

“An engaging, combative and hard hitting orator but also a humane, thoughtful and compassionate leader who had the interests of the downtrodden at heart. Mosiane leaves a big void in the local community,” was how Maphosa described him.

Thabo Mosiane was a key part in the liberation movement, especially among  students and the youth.

After the African National Congress  was unbanned in the early 1990’s Mosiane became as one of its organisers and was very active in its youth league in the then Western Transvaal region, the fore-runner to the current North West Province.

He has been deployed in various capacities within the Dr KK Kaunda District as well as the erstwhile Tlokwe City Council.

The JB Marks Local Municipality expresses its sincerest and heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the Thabo Mosiane.
