The successful lightweight is a multiple champion in South Africa, holding the coveted Fightstar lightweight belt as well as the Klerksdorp Fight Night lightweight title. He was also the winner of searching for a scrap where he beat many other top lightweights in the country during this tournament.

Looking at his skill set and his accomplishments there is no doubt that he deserves his spot in the South African team. Meyer has already won his first fight of the IMMAF competition and is primed to bring home a gold medal.

According to his coach, Roevan de Beer, from Coalition Grappling Academy (CGA) in Bailliepark, his chances are very good to win a gold medal.

“He is someone that has dedicated his life to martial arts. I think, the last year he has found a formula that works for him as an athlete,” said de Beer.

According to de Beer,  Meyer is evolving as an athlete, learning new ways to execute old techniques.

“We are moving a step ahead . I am very proud to have played a small part in all his hard work as an athlete,” he said.

In this game you get fighters and athletes, according to de Beer it is rare to find both in one person. When you do, it is something special and Meyer is both.

The IMMAF tournament runs from the 11th until the 18th of November.
