With the gruelling grade 12 exams approaching, the road to tertiary institutions was paved for female matriculants at Seiphemelo Secondary School when they received sanitary towels and listened to motivational speeches on Tuesday.

MEG security, GKLM events, Kwame communications cc, eTV Drama; Rhythm City actors and Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality all united in delivering sanitary towels and inspirational words to the disadvantaged learners. ‘I can and I will’, actress, Mapula Mafole from the popular soapie, Rhythm City, vociferously encouraged the learners to believe in themselves, focus on their school work and pass.

‘You are in a very important time of your life, a lot of people have been motivating you and you need to heed these words and focus on your studies. Remember, everything in life is a process, nothing comes easy.
‘They told me that I cannot be an actress but I persevered, went to school and beyond and look at me now,’ she said smiling.
Mapula Mafole who plays Mapula in the popular soapie hands out sanitary towels to the learners.
Her fellow actress, Mbalenhle Zakwe, said since the learners were infants, their parents wished and hoped that they would become greater in life. ‘Right now, it is time to use everything that you have, every weapon that you have to succeed,’ she encouraged them.
The two actresses were joined by Brian ‘Bruno’ Majola, a former prisoner and now an actor and musician. He says that, just by being in Grade 12, the learners had already proved that they had worked hard to get where they are. Why would you want to fail now? he asked.
Moeder Ketshabile, the Dr KK District Municipality youth coordinator said the learners will be able to focus on their studies now that they do not have the stress of their monthly periods, ‘You can be anything that you want in life,’ she told the learners. According to Letukile Letlojane from Kwame communications, this visit was part of an annual sanitary towel handover to Gr. 12 learners.
‘We are embarking on a project to provide sanitary towels to grade 12 girls in three high schools identified within the Dr KK District Municipality (Leruntse-Lesedi High in Makwassie, Seiphemelo High in Ikageng and Thuto-Boswa High in Ventersdorp, Tshing).
‘The sanitary towels will last individuals for four months, making sure they stay in class for the duration of the exams,’ he said.
The girls will not be stressing about their monthly periods throughout their final matric exams.
