Patriotism, heroism, determination, dedication, selflessness, commitment and courage are some of the great qualities that the South African National Defence Force’s (SANDF) chief of logistics, Lt-Genl Jabulani Mbuli, highlighted when he bestowed long service medals on 23 soldiers at Potchefstroom Army Support Base last Friday.
The men and women who received 30- and 40-year long service medals stood proudly as he praised them for working tirelessly to earn the awards and their selfless service to the country and the SANDF.
‘It is a joyous moment today, knowing that I’m surrounded by patriots. We see it shining on your chests. The significance of military medals, awards and decorations that are to hang on your chest denote heroism, meritorious service or achievement.
‘The medals conferred on you today do not equate to the value that most people put on them but they have immense and special sentimental value,’ he said.
The auspicious medal parade, which was graced by different corps within the SANDF, was blessed in prayer by Col Rev. S Theko who read from the book of Philippians 2:12-18. He also advised them to humble themselves before their leaders and stay loyal to the people they serve.
