The Ikageng police are investigating a murder case after a 17-year-old boy was murdered in Ext. 11 just after midnight on Saturday morning.

According to WO Ishmael Mohutsiwa, the SAPS spokesperson, the police found the boy with a stab wound to the chest. ‘ER24 was at the scene and declared him dead,’ he says.
The victim was allegedly stabbed by his 20-year-old friend who appeared in court on Monday.
‘According to onlookers, the two started fighting and that is when the boy was stabbed,’ says Mohutsiwa. He adds that allowing under-age children to go into taverns and consume alcohol is a huge problem in the community. ‘The other problem is revellers being allowed in with dangerous weapons and consuming alcohol.’
The murder of 55-year-old Paulina Setlhare took place in Ikageng on Monday. A survey by the Institute of Race Relations was released last week, stating that almost 500 000 South Africans have been murdered since 1994.
According to the IRR crime analyst, Kerwin Lebone, South Africans live with horrific levels of violent crime. With the murder rate falling to 31.9 per 100 000 people since 1994, it remains one of the highest in the world. He made another shocking revelation – that South Africa’s murder crisis is so serious that South Africans are more likely to be murdered than the residents of many terror- affected countries.
