Community policing was once again held in high regard when a community member led the Potchefstroom K9 unit to recover six laptops and a PlayStation worth about R40 000 at 10:00 on Tuesday.

According to Const. Kelebogile Trom, the SAPS spokesperson, the K9 unit managed to arrest four African males in possession of suspected stolen goods.
‘Sgt Basimane Seleka of the K9 unit received information about stolen laptops in a certain house in Ikageng. He called for backup and, when they arrived at the house, they found the four men aged between 26 and 37. They were arrested when they could not explain the laptops or the PlayStation,’ says Trom.

In another case, the Ikageng community worked hand in glove with the Ikageng police to fight crime when goods worth R56 000 were recovered at about 19:30 last Tuesday.
Trom says Const. Lucky Thekiso and his team recovered a plasma TV, a computer, a hard drive, cell phone batteries and computer cables after a tip-off from a member of the public.
The Vispol commander, Lt-Col. Paul Langevelt has appealed to the public who may have lost laptops or a PlayStation to come to the Ikageng police station with proof of ownership, a case number and an ID.
Langevelt encouraged the community to report any crime. ‘We would appreciate it if more community members would come forward with anonymous tip-offs.
‘We experience a lot of burglaries and theft out of motor vehicles in Ikageng daily. The public is advised not to leave valuable goods in their cars,’ he said.
