In less than 48 hours, Ikageng and Promosa were hit by a series of tragic incidents and the police station recorded two murders, an inquest and an attempted murder.
Const. Kelebogile Trom, Ikageng SAPS spokesperson says the police are investigating a case of murder after a 66-year-old woman was found dead in Ext. 7 at about 19:55 on Monday.
‘While the police were patrolling, they received a call about a murder in Ext 7. They rushed to the scene and, on their arrival, found members of the family and neighbours sitting outside the house. They went inside and found the husband of the woman sitting next to the body. The deceased was covered with two towels. She had bruises on her legs and body. The body was taken to the Potchefstroom mortuary,’ she said.
Trom says a 60-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder at 15:45 on Tuesday.
In another case, a 20-year-old man died at Boiki Tlhapi clinic in the early hours of Monday morning. The young man was admitted to the clinic after being stabbed with a knife. According to information given to the police at around 03:00, he was allegedly stabbed by someone he knew. The nurses attended to him and the emergency services later declared him dead. The police arrested a 36-year-old man at 03:25 on Monday.
The police are investigating an inquest case after a 33-year-old woman died in Promosa at about 02:15 on Sunday. According to witnesses, she was bleeding profusely and sustained injuries on her right hand.
‘The police were called to the scene after another woman complained that someone was breaking the windows of her family home. On their way to the caller’s place, they found the deceased and her relatives sitting on the ground with blood all over the place. The body was then taken to the mortuary.
Trom says the Ikageng police apprehended five suspects at about 15:45 on Monday. She says they have been accused of attacking and stabbing a 24-year-old man and an attempted murder case is being investigated. The victim alleges that he went to buy a cigarette at about 21:00 on Sunday. When he entered the shop, two men that he knows started stabbing him. Another three men joined in and stabbed him in the head. The victim does not remember what happened thereafter. He sustained injuries to his head and face,
